Press Release

Clermont County homeowners may be eligible for immediate financial relief under the recently enacted Ohio House Bill 479

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 14, 2026

Batavia, Ohio — The Clermont County Auditor, Linda Fraley, is urging eligible homeowners to apply for the Homestead Exemption ahead of an upcoming deadline to secure a significant, one-time property tax reduction for tax year 2026, collected in 2027.

Following the passage of Ohio House Bill 479, the Ohio General Assembly has allocated $350 million in one-time funding to expand relief for seniors, disabled residents, and surviving spouses. This temporary expansion creates a “One-Time Bonus Homestead Credit”, effectively doubling down on savings by offering an estimated $450 to $500 in additional property tax reductions on 2026 tax bills payable in 2027.

“This one-time funding is a welcome financial cushion for our most vulnerable homeowners facing rising living costs,” Linda Fraley said. “However, residents must apply now. If you meet the income and age requirements, do not leave this money on the table.”

Current Homestead recipients do not need to submit a separate application to receive this credit. Homeowners who are not currently enrolled must apply for and qualify for the Homestead Exemption under the regular eligibility requirements described below.

Who Qualifies for the Homestead Exemption?

To qualify for the standard Homestead Exemption and the new one-time bonus credit, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Ownership: You must own and occupy your Ohio home as your primary residence as of January 1 of the tax year.
  • Seniors: Ohio residents aged 65 or older who meet state income limits (modified adjusted gross income threshold is $41,000 for tax year 2026).
  • Individuals with Disabilities: Ohioans permanently and totally disabled.
  • Veterans: Military veterans who are 100% disabled due to service.
  • Surviving Spouses: Qualifying spouses of public safety officers killed in the line of duty.

Deadline to Take Action

Eligible homeowners enrolling in the Homestead Exemption for the first time must act quickly. We are asking residents to submit the required application by December 31, 2026; to guarantee the bonus credit applies to the upcoming 1st half tax bill.

Homeowners can review guidelines on the Clermont County Auditor’s website, download the Homestead Application form, apply online, or contact the Clermont County Auditor’s office at 513.732.7150 for assistance.
