The Clermont County Auditor’s Office is responsible for issuing Retail Cigarette Dealer’s Licenses. Anyone who sells or transports cigarettes within Clermont County must obtain a yearly Cigarette Dealer’s License in conjunction with a Vendor’s License.
Wholesale Cigarette Dealer’s Licenses are only available from the Ohio Department of Taxation. Additional information can be found on the Ohio Department of Taxation’s website.
Licenses are renewed annually. Renewal forms will be mailed out at the beginning of May. The retail dealer only needs to fill out the registration form and pay the annual fee of $125. Licenses are good for a one-year period that runs from the 4th Monday in May to the 4th Monday of May the next year. Once issued, the license number and the information about the business establishment are permanently filed in the county’s records. Retail licenses bought after the 3rd Monday in June are subject to proration and can only be purchased at the office of the Clermont County Auditor.
Due to Governor DeWine’s executive order declaring a State of Emergency in Ohio, current Cigarette Licenses are not required to be renewed in May 2020 and remain valid until the earlier of ninety (90) days after the date the emergency ends or December 1, 2020.
